I was so excited when Angie contacted me to be the harpist for her wedding! We attended Bradley University at the same time (just a couple of years ago….), where we sang together in the Chorale and went to Poland and the Czech Republic on tour. It had been ages since we’d seen each other, and it was wonderful to do some catching up as we planned her wedding music!
Although they currently live in Indianapolis, she and Kevin returned to Peoria for their wedding celebration. Both the ceremony and brunch reception took place at the Cornerstone Building. The converted church was beautifully decorated in black and silver.
I played as guests arrived and took their seats for the ceremony, then transitioned to “Home” by the Foo Fighters for the family seating and bridal party processional. The groom’s dog escorted the flower girl down the aisle, and then relaxed for the rest of the ceremony! Angie came down the aisle to Pachelbel’s “Canon in D.”
During the ceremony, which was performed by the bride’s uncle, they did a handfasting. This was followed by a harp solo musical interlude of “Hallelujah” from Shrek. This song has definitely become one of my favorites! The ceremony concluded with the recessional “Harvest Moon” by Neil Young, and then the room was reset for the reception.
I continued to play throughout the brunch. Guests enjoyed everything from cheesecake to a waffle bar, and I played a variety of jazz age and contemporary popular songs. As the harp was the only entertainment for the day, they also danced to harp music! Angie & Kevin had their first dance to “Power of Two” by the Indigo Girls, and Angie danced with her father to “Rainbow Connection” from The Muppet Movie.
