Southwest Michigan Wedding Music ~ Harp & Violin duet at the Mendel Center

Finally ~ an outdoor wedding that could go ahead as planned!  I’ve been waiting all spring for this, and Laura & Tim turned out to be the lucky couple that didn’t have to endure rain, winds, and near-freezing temperatures.  They were married on the lawn of the Mendel Center of Lake Michigan College in Benton Harbor, MI.

Originally, Laura had booked only me as their solo harpist.  Early in the week of their wedding, she contacted me and asked if it was too late to add a violinist.  Fortunately, one of my regulars was available to play for their ceremony!  It was a special surprise for her groom, who loves violin music, so we kept it under wraps until the wedding day.

As guests gathered and took their seats, we played a variety of classical pieces by Schubert, Bach, Handel, and others.  The seating of families and the wedding party processional was all to “Prelude in C” by J.S. Bach, followed by the bride’s entrance to “Canon in D” by Pachelbel.

A friend of the couple performed the ceremony, which included readings not only from Corinthians, but also quotes about love from some of their favorite movies (The Wedding Singer, When Harry Met Sally, and many more!).  As they sealed love letters to one another in a box, we played “Can’t Help Falling in Love.”

The recessional was “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring,” also by J.S. Bach.  We continued to play harp & violin duets as the guests made their way to the reception.
