Bach in the Subways – Classical Music in Lagos, Nigeria

I love taking the harp to unexpected places!  The Bach in the Subways event was the perfect outlet for this.  Being fairly new to Lagos, and hugely pregnant, we looked for a place that would be easily accessible and very safe.  I ended up selecting the Lagoon Restaurant on the waterfront in Lagos for my “subway” performance.

Lagos Classical Harpist The goal of this worldwide event is to bring Bach’s music to people’s everyday lives.  From solo performers to full orchestras, Bach’s music was everywhere on March 21st.  I played a variety of Bach’s “greatest hits,” including some that I frequently play for weddings (“Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring,” “Arioso,” “Sheep May Safely Graze“), and some lesser-known works and chorales.

The harp was a big hit!  Of course, it called for a group photo of all of the restaurant workers there that morning.  I’m heading back to the US shortly for the birth of our daughter, but will return to Lagos some time in September, so if you are looking for a harpist in West Africa, please contact me!  Website:  West Africa Harp Player
