Marissa and Jimmy had a beautiful day for their wedding at Starved Rock – about 20 degrees cooler than the day before! Their ceremony took place outdoors at the Sunrise Shelter, with the reception following inside the historic lodge.
Prelude music began when the guests started to arrive, and continued until I got the cue from the coordinator that the families of the bride and groom were ready to enter. Their processional music was “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” and the wedding party followed to “Unchained Melody.” Marissa chose “Lovesong” by The Cure for her big entrance.
During the service, they had a unique unity ceremony – a beer sharing! Each poured some of their favorite beer into a glass, and then drank it in turn. From the looks on their faces, the combination didn’t taste as bad as they were expecting! Throughout, I was playing “A Groovy Kind of Love.”
The recessional to conclude the ceremony and send everyone off to the reception was “All My Loving” by The Beatles. I continued to play upbeat pop music until the last guest had exited the ceremony venue.
I’ve played for several weddings at Starved Rock, both outdoors and in the lodge.
