Although they currently live in California, Jill and Rieker came to Mississippi for their wedding. Their November wedding had perfect fall weather! With the ceremony at the Tomnolen Baptist Church in Eupora, MS, and the reception in the adjacent church hall, it was convenient for their guests, too!
I played classical music and love songs as guests entered the church and took their seats. When the families were ready to enter, I played “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring.” The wedding party entered to “Canon in D” by Pachelbel, and Jill chose the traditional “Bridal Chorus” for her processional.
During the ceremony, friends of the couple played guitar and sang as the bride and groom created their unity cross. The recessional was “Trumpet Voluntary” on the harp, and then everyone was off to the reception!
They didn’t have any specific music requests for the dinner hour, so I played a variety of contemporary songs, jazz standards, and classical pieces. Some of these included “Cantique de Jean Racine,” “Perfect,” and “Have I Told You Lately that I Love You.”
When a couple of toddlers came up close to observe, I began to play “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.” It’s a hit with the preschool crowd! They sang along and danced. Most people never have the opportunity to see a harp up close, and I love to share what I do with them – especially children!
I play for weddings and events in the Oxford area and throughout Northern Mississippi and Memphis. Visit my website ~ Mississippi Wedding Harpist ~ to get in touch and start planning your wedding music!
