Although their wedding ceremony was in India, the bride and groom chose to have a reception to celebrate with friends in Central Illinois. On the Saturday after Thanksgiving, they met at the Silvercreek Greenhouse in downtown Urbana. It was already decorated for the approaching holidays!
One of the most popular ensembles I offer is a harp and flute duet. Even Mozart wrote a concerto for this combination! No concerto on this program, although there was a little bit of everything else!
They originally planned on having a Bollywood-centric music lineup, but expanded beyond that, including classical, jazz, Arabic, popular, and Irish music, along with the Indian hits. Some of their requests included:
- Aatini el-nay
- Bohemian Rhapsody
- Imagine
- O Re Piya
- Rains of Castamere from Game of Thrones
- Sakura Sakura (Japanese folk song)
- River Flows in You
- Sweet Child o’ Mine
For two hours, we played background music as their guests enjoyed dinner and a slideshow of their ceremony in India. With two musicians, we are able to alternate short breaks, to provide continuous music.
Either as a soloist or with a duet or larger ensemble, I love working with couples to play music that is uniquely suited to their tastes. Whether you prefer classical music, something more contemporary, or something that celebrates your cultural heritage, the music of your choice sounds fresh and new on the harp!
