Sally and Michael chose to get married at the Lakemore Resort overlooking Arbutus Lake, as that is where they are building their home together. The forecast for that day called for thunderstorms and hail, but they made the call to stick with the original outdoor plan – and lucky for them, the afternoon was perfect!
I used my carbon-fibre Heartland Infinity harp, both due to the possibility for rain and the site access. This is a harp I can get ANYWHERE! And when I’m playing this harp, I can even continue the music if the weather doesn’t cooperate. I love having this option for my couples – it removes so much stress from outdoor wedding planning!
Before the ceremony began, some of the bride’s classmates from her school for healing blessed the ceremony space. I played ambient music as guests found their seats, then switched to “Portraits” by Spencer Brewer. The bride has a special attachment to this piece, as it was a song her father played when she was a child to help her fall asleep. She loves this song so much, she wanted it played for the wedding party processional and her own grand entrance. A bridal processional isn’t necessarily very long, so this is the perfect way to hear a longer version of your favorite selection!
The ceremony took place on the lawn overlooking the lake, and was performed by a friend of the couple and framed by an arch built by the groom. “Concerning Hobbits” from Lord of the Rings was the recessional as the newly-married couple took off for a quick pontoon boat ride.
Background music for the postlude, including a celebratory “Here Comes the Sun” by The Beatles, continued as the guests headed to the shuttles that would provide transportation to the reception in downtown Traverse City. I play for weddings throughout Northern Michigan, on Mackinac Island, and across the Upper Peninsula. Harp music makes an elegant addition to all of your wedding festivities, so contact me via my website {Northern Michigan Harpist} to start planning today!
