Sunrise, Sunset

This song comes from the 1964 Broadway musical Fiddler on the Roof, and is sung during the wedding of Tzeitel. The parents of the bride sing about how they can't believe their daughter has grown up, so this is a popular song for the seating of parents and grandparents before a wedding ceremony. The music was composed by Jerry Bock, with lyrics by Sheldon Harnick.

The trio version below was recorded live at a wedding ceremony.

This piece can be played on pedal harp.

Harp, Violin, & Cello trio

Lyrics

Is this the little girl I carried?
Is this the little boy at play?
I don't remember growing older,
When did they?

When did she get to be a beauty?
When did he grow to be so tall?
Wasn't it yesterday when they were small?

Sunrise sunset, sunrise, sunset,
Swiftly flow the days,
Seedlings turn overnight to sunflowers,
Blossoming even as they gaze...

Sunrise sunset, sunrise, sunset!
Swiftly fly the years,
One season following another,
Laden with happiness and tears...
