Caitlyn and Tim chose the beautiful Lincoln Memorial Garden for their wedding ceremony. Guests gathered at the council ring, looking out over Lake Springfield, as harp music filled the garden. The harp in that secluded and rustic setting is an impressive sight and sound. Several people wondered how I got the harp back there on the trails (I pushed it on my harp cart – yes, by myself!).
The couple selected non-traditional harp music for their ceremony. For the seating of the grandparents, they chose “Serenade” by the harpist-composer Susann McDonald. The wedding party entered to “Concerning Hobbits” from The Lord of the Rings, and the bride’s processional was “River Flows in You” by Yiruma. The groom’s brother performed the ceremony.
I played “Storybook Love” from The Princess Bride as a harp solo near the beginning of the ceremony. This allowed the bride and groom to have a few moments to stop, reflect, and breathe! I also played light glissandos in the background as they said their personalized vows to one another.
The recessional was “Great Fairy Fountain” from The Legend of Zelda. That piece was a new addition to my repertoire, at their special request.
I continued to play as guests departed, and wrapped up just as a few raindrops began to fall. Good timing!
