Wedding at Le Chateau Pier – Harpist in Eastern Ohio

Le Chateau Pier is a beautiful venue in rural eastern Ohio, not far from Steubenville, Ohio, or Wheeling, West Virginia. It was here that Crista and John celebrated their marriage with family and friends filling the hall.

As guests arrived, I played a mix of classical, popular, and sacred harp music, including Stephen Foster’s “Beautiful Dreamer,” Schubert’s “Ave Maria,” and Bach’s “Arioso.” The bridesmaids, all attired in pink, walked down the aisle to “Canon in D” by Pachelbel. The flower girl and ring bearer’s entrance music was another selection by Bach, “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring.”

Crista’s own processional was “Hymne” by the contemporary Greek composer Vangelis. As the couple lit the unity candle, I played “Meditation” from the French opera Thais, and the recessional was the traditional Mendelssohn “Wedding March.”

Harp music continued through cocktails and dinner, switching to more modern genres. Some of the couple’s special requests included “Memory” from the Broadway musical Cats, “Unchained Melody,” “My Heart Will Go On” from Titanic, and “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen. They wanted “Nothing Else Matters” by Metallica to close out the live music for the evening, and lead into the DJ for dancing.
