On the last Saturday in March, Jocelyn & Jose celebrated with an absolutely gorgeous wedding at the Artisan’s Building on the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, IL. Rikeesha from Flair for Events was their wedding planner, and she transformed the hall into a modern, glamorous space decorated in bright fuchsia and purple.
The ceremony took place in the center section of the building, with the reception tables pre-set on both sides. White draping encircled the ceremony space, and allowed for a big “reveal” moment when the guests were finally able to see the full set-up!
I’ve played for hundreds of weddings, but Jocelyn & Jose had a unique touch I hadn’t seen before ~ instead of a traditional guest book, they had their guests sign wine corks! They continued the theme with some of the tables having wine bottle centerpieces.
I played as the guests arrived and found their seats, then transitioned to “All I Ask of You” from Phantom of the Opera for the processional of the bridal party. Jocelyn entered to the traditional “Here Comes the Bride” by Wagner.
The recessional was something not typically used for the conclusion of the ceremony: Schubert’s “Ave Maria.” Taken at a slightly more upbeat tempo, it works! I continued to play as the guests made their way to cocktail hour and the ceremony space was re-set to accommodate the dance floor. Music Source DJ in Springfield took over for the cocktail hour and reception.
Throughout Central Illinois, I am available as a wedding musician for ceremonies and receptions. Please contact me (devon @ theclassicharpist.com) or visit my website (Central Illinois Wedding Musicians) for more information about having a harpist for your wedding!
