I was asked by the Irish director of an international preschool in Lagos to bring the harp to her school the week of St. Patrick’s Day. Â She wanted them to see the national symbol of Ireland and tie the music of the harp in with their studies of the week.
On March 16th, I met the students at the Italian International School. Â They were so excited to see the harp! Â I explained a little bit to them about how the harp works and makes music, and then played a couple of Irish tunes for them. Â I finished up with one they knew, and everyone sang along to “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.”
Then was the best part – each child had the opportunity to try the harp! Â It’s always enjoyable for me to see the personalities of the kids in their approach to the instrument. Â Some are very timid and shy, and others are ready to grab the strings right away! Â But each child, as they make their first sounds, I see their eyes get wide and huge smiles spread across their faces.
I am offering harp lessons in Lagos, so if you are interested in learning more about the instrument, or having harp music for an event you are planning, please contact me!
