Piano Lessons

piano Lessons

Piano lessons are offered to students from ages 4 through adults, from beginners to advanced musicians. No previous musical training is necessary, and students will gradually learn how to read music. Twice-yearly recitals are scheduled to give all students public performance opportunities. Competitions and adjudications are available for interested students.

Many students will benefit from studying piano before starting another instrument. They will learn the fundamentals of music and be more prepared to enter an elementary school band or orchestra than their peers.

I always encourage students who are interested in studying the harp to begin piano lessons as well. The two instruments reinforce one another, and musical concepts transfer between the two. One year of piano study is required before students ages five through seven may begin harp lessons.

All students must have an acoustic piano or full-size digital piano (not a keyboard) at home on which they can practice. Pianos can be purchased or rented from music stores in Jacksonville and Springfield.

All students will use lesson, theory, technic, and ear training books, with supplemental literature selected based on the student’s interests. I stock all required materials, and they are available for purchase in the studio.

Lessons are held weekly in my home studio in Jacksonville, Illinois, or in Springfield at The Music Factory.

To begin study, I require a free, no-obligation interview/audition. This allows you to see if lessons in my studio will be a good fit for you and your goals. You do not have to have anything prepared to perform for this brief interview.

Acceptance into my studio is not based on talent, but on motivation, eagerness, openness to teacher’s suggestions, musical potential, and attitude. Please contact me by phone or email to set up this initial meeting or ask any questions you may have.

“I would recommend Devon to anyone looking for music for their event. She played at our wedding. She was responsive and worked with us to ensure our music was perfect. She was very kind and I even picked songs that were not part of her main list. She showed up ahead of time and I knew I could depend on her. Thank you so much for making our day so memorable!! Numerous of our guests also commented on how lovely of a touch the harpist was to our ceremony.”
