LeRae and Nick were blessed with a beautiful wedding day in Traverse City. Windy, but beautiful! Their ceremony took place on the edge of the Grand Traverse Bay, at the West Bay Beach Resort in downtown Traverse City.
I love working with other musicians as they plan their weddings. They know the importance of live music, and it’s especially nice that they give their guests who are also musicians the day off and let them just enjoy the celebration!
The venue provided an umbrella to keep the harp in the shade. I did have to keep moving further inland to avoid the water’s spray! As guests were seated, I played a variety of classical pieces, including excerpts from Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons. The families and wedding party entered to Purcell’s “Hornpipe,” and the bride chose the lovely “Canon in D” for her processional.
With all the wind off the bay, the unity candles wouldn’t stay lit, so they mimed that part of the ceremony. Always good to keep it lighthearted when little things don’t go quite as planned! Mendelssohn’s “Wedding March” was chosen for the recessional. The postlude as guests filed out included “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring,” “Air” from Handel’s Water Music, and “King William’s March.”
