This memorial service took place on Madeline Island, part of the Apostle Islands off the north coast of Wisconsin in Lake Superior. Family and friends gathered for the burial at the cemetery just up the road from La Pointe, and I played harp music as they arrived.
By the partner’s special request, I prepared the song “Amor Eterno” by Juan Gabriel for this time. I also played “Imagine” by John Lennon, “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen, and “Wind Beneath My Wings,” along with other light classical and popular selections.

A friend of the decedent, and a member of the local Ojibwe tribe, performed a smudging ceremony to begin the service and a song to conclude it. I continued with more harp music as people shared remembrances and made their way to the luncheon that followed.
While I most often play for weddings, harp music can be a wonderful comfort to those mourning loss as well. Its sound is both soothing and ethereal, and I can play your requests or you can leave the music selections up to me. I regularly play throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan, and would be happy to provide music in any of these locations and beyond. Visit my website – Northern Wisconsin Harpist – to contact me.
