A Bridgerton-inspired wedding and harp music are a natural combination. Mansion weddings, historic estates, formal gardens, country clubs, and other elegant venues already provide much of the visual character associated with the series. The harp complements that setting while opening the repertoire to contemporary pop music played on an instrument traditionally associated with classical music.
For Mackenzie and Carter’s wedding at Allerton Mansion in Monticello, Illinois, that idea carried directly into cocktail hour. Mackenzie was planning with a Bridgerton theme in mind, and the playlist embraced the concept with contemporary and familiar favorites including “thank u, next,” “Girls Like You,” “In My Blood,” “Wildest Dreams,” and “Dancing on My Own.”
Harp Music in the Solarium at Allerton Mansion
I was set up in the Solarium, where the bar was also located for cocktail hour. That placement meant the harp was one of the first things guests saw as they entered the space after the ceremony.
From there, guests could enjoy the Solarium or head outside toward the koi pond and lawn. The harp became part of the visual setting inside while the music accompanied a cocktail hour that extended into Allerton’s gardens and grounds.
A full-size concert harp looks completely at home amid the architectural details of a space like the Solarium, but the repertoire does not have to follow the expectations created by the instrument itself.
A Bridgerton Wedding Playlist on Harp
That contrast between instrument and repertoire was central to Mackenzie and Carter’s cocktail hour. Their playlist moved well beyond music traditionally associated with the harp, with selections such as “Wrecking Ball,” “Mamma Mia,” “Someone You Loved,” “Stitches,” and “Enchanted.”
It is exactly the kind of musical juxtaposition that has become so closely associated with Bridgerton. A song guests already know takes on a different character when its melody is transferred to the harp. Someone may recognize an ABBA favorite in one moment and a Taylor Swift song in another, all within the sound world created by the same instrument.
The possibilities extend far beyond the music actually heard on Bridgerton. Couples can draw from the series itself or apply the same approach to their own favorite music, creating a playlist that is personal while retaining the classical and contemporary combination that makes the style so recognizable.
Contemporary Music on a Classical Instrument
There is no reason to restrict wedding harp music to pieces traditionally associated with weddings. Pop, rock, alternative, R&B, Broadway, film and television music, video game themes, jazz, and music from different decades can all belong in the same celebration.
Cocktail hour works especially well for this kind of programming because the playlist can move freely among genres and generations. Familiar songs continually appear in a new form, giving guests opportunities to recognize music they know while maintaining a consistent instrumental sound throughout the event.
The same approach can be shaped around each couple’s own listening preferences. Music you already know and love can take on a completely different character when arranged for an instrument with a long classical tradition.
A Bridgerton-Inspired WeddingÂ
Allerton Mansion has the architectural character and formal grounds that complement a Bridgerton aesthetic beautifully, but the concept can work in many different settings. Historic homes, estates, gardens, ballrooms, hotels, country clubs, and other wedding venues can each provide their own interpretation of the style.
The harp contributes to both the music and the visual design of the celebration. Its traditional appearance fits naturally into a formal setting, while the repertoire can range from classical music to the contemporary songs couples and their guests already know.
