Members of the Detroit Institute of Arts foundation met for a dinner and presentation from one of the museum’s curators in the lower level of the DIA.
As the guests arrived, I played a variety of light classical and contemporary songs of multiple eras, from Elvis to The Beatles to Ed Sheeran. The music of the harp is both versatile and elegant, and it’s a wonderful choice for background music. It’s not overpowering of conversations, but can still be heard and create the ambiance desired.
The presentation featured many of the acquisitions made during this curator’s time at the museum – since the 1970s! He outlined not only the provenance and importance of the pieces themselves, but also gave the story of how they came into the museum’s collections.
Following the presentation, dinner was served, with more harp music to accompany. Any event can be elevated with live music, and the harp adds a visual element as well!
