Randolph KS Harpist

As a wedding harpist serving Manhattan, Topeka, and communities throughout Kansas, I recently had the pleasure of providing live harp music for a beautiful ceremony at Blue Vista in Randolph, Kansas. The photographs featured on this page are from that celebration and showcase one of the Flint Hills region’s newest wedding venues.

Wedding Music in Kansas

Blue Vista has quickly gained attention among couples looking for a venue that combines modern design with spectacular Kansas scenery. Perched above the rolling Flint Hills, the venue features expansive windows that showcase panoramic views in every direction. On this particular wedding day, temperatures outside were extremely hot, making the venue’s design especially appealing. Guests were able to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding landscape from the comfort of an elegant indoor space, creating the feeling of an outdoor wedding while remaining cool and comfortable throughout the ceremony.

The couple selected a thoughtful blend of classical music, contemporary favorites, and meaningful personal selections that reflected their style while taking full advantage of the harp’s expressive and romantic sound.

Prelude Music

As guests arrived and found their seats, I performed a variety of music designed to create a welcoming and elegant atmosphere. The prelude included popular contemporary songs, classical repertoire, and Celtic selections, allowing guests to enjoy a diverse musical program before the ceremony began.

One featured prelude selection was “Clair de Lune” by Claude Debussy. Originally written for piano, this beloved Impressionist masterpiece translates beautifully to the harp. Its flowing arpeggios, shimmering textures, and delicate harmonies feel especially natural on the instrument, creating a peaceful and sophisticated atmosphere that pairs beautifully with a scenic venue like Blue Vista.

Family Seating

For the seating of family members, the couple selected the jazz standard “La Vie en Rose” by Édith Piaf.

This iconic French love song has become a favorite for weddings because of its timeless romantic character. On the harp, the melody takes on an especially graceful quality, with the instrument’s resonant tone highlighting the song’s warmth and elegance. It provided a lovely musical backdrop as family members were escorted to their seats and the ceremony began to take shape.

Wedding Party Processional

The wedding party entered to “Annie’s Song” by John Denver.

Known for its heartfelt lyrics and sweeping melody, the song works beautifully as an instrumental harp arrangement. The flowing musical lines lend themselves naturally to the harp’s expressive sound, creating a sense of warmth, anticipation, and joy.

The processional also included one of the most memorable moments of the ceremony: the entrance of the bride’s grandmothers, who served as “flower grandmas.” Their participation brought smiles throughout the venue and added a meaningful personal touch that guests will undoubtedly remember for years to come!

Bridal Processional

For the bride’s entrance, I performed “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri from The Twilight Saga film series.

This has become one of the most requested wedding processionals of the past decade, and it translates exceptionally well to solo harp. The song’s flowing accompaniment and lyrical melody create a dramatic yet elegant entrance, allowing the bride’s walk down the aisle to feel both emotional and timeless.

Recessional

Following the ceremony, the newlyweds exited to “Best Day of My Life” by American Authors.

This upbeat, celebratory song provided a joyful contrast to the more reflective ceremony music that preceded it. The harp arrangement retains the energy and optimism of the original recording while adding a polished and distinctive sound that works beautifully for a wedding recessional.

Postlude Music

As guests congratulated the couple and began transitioning toward the reception, I continued with a selection of contemporary favorites.

Featured postlude selections included:

• “Dandelions” by Ruth B.
• “Birds of a Feather” by Billie Eilish
• “Young and Beautiful” by Lana Del Rey

These modern sound extraordinary on the harp, allowing familiar melodies to take on a fresh and elegant character. Their lush harmonies and expressive melodies create a sophisticated atmosphere while maintaining a contemporary feel.
