There are an infinite number of reasons to have a party – but do you even need one? What better reason that just being alive! This party’s theme was “dead or alive,” and celebrated a long-married couple and their family.
It was an all-out affair from start to finish! Guests gathered at the Joslyn Art Museum in downtown Omaha, where they were welcomed into the galleries by greeters dressed as Vegas showgirls, and entertained by stilt walkers, human statues, and other roving entertainers. Plus harp music floating off the balcony!
Decor was black and silver to go with the “dead or alive” theme, but they requested an upbeat vibe (more toward the “alive” bit!), so I made sure the music matched the ambiance they desired to create.
I included some much-loved classical pieces, as well as popular songs of multiple eras so the guests of honor, their children, and their grandchildren would all recognize something! So the playlist ended up being Elvis followed by Beyonce followed by The Beatles! At one point, one of the guests came up to me and asked, “Was that Metallica?” Yes, yes it was!
After gathering in the galleries and enjoying cocktails, guests were directed to the Suzanne & Walter Scott Pavilion for a seated dinner. The centerpieces were unique multi-colored glass art bowls.
Harp music accompanied the dinner service as well, following the welcome speeches. For something a bit different, the planner requested that I play one of my more portable harps. This allows me to play standing and have more flexibility in location. The LED lights add a big of extra glamour!
I play orchestral, Celtic, and electric harps, so we can match the visual element to your event style and venue, as well as play music of various genres to set the acoustic backdrop. I can even switch harps for different moments of your event as well! This is a great option if there will be multiple locations where you’d like harp music with quick transitions in between, or if you’d like to create a different setting.
