Harp music is a wonderful way to celebrate life, and is a comforting and calming presence for families who are mourning the loss of a loved one. Last Thursday, I played for a funeral luncheon at Blue Heron at Blackthorn, on the north side of South Bend, Indiana.
The man who booked me to provide the music for the afternoon had heard me play previously at a work Christmas party, and knew it would be the perfect way to honor his grandmother. They were blessed with a beautiful day, and were able to have seating both inside the ballroom and out on the venue’s patio. The harp was set up close to the doors to the patio, so the music could be heard both inside and out.
As family and friends ate and conversed, I played a variety of music (including the special request “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” from The Wizard of Oz) in the background. Harp music is loud enough to be heard, but not so loud that it hinders conversation. It makes the perfect backdrop for a meal!
