The holidays are not always joyful. For those who have lost a loved one, especially recently, the season can bring sorrow and pain. The Diocese of Joliet held a service for these families at the Resurrection Cemetery Chapel in Romeoville, Illinois.
I was honored to play the harp for the service, and to bring a bit of beauty to the holidays for them. As people gathered and filled the pews, I played traditional Christmas carols. The final piece of the prelude was “Make Me a Channel of Your Peace.”
During the service, I played “Amazing Grace” and “Silent Night” as harp solos. As names were read and family members placed an ornament on the Christmas trees, I played “Angels We Have Heard on High” and “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” lightly in the background. The service concluded with Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.”
For any occasion, harp music is soothing and evokes a feeling of peace and tranquility. I play for events throughout the Chicago area, so please visit my website to contact me: South Chicago Harpist.
