I was thrilled to spend another Sunday afternoon at Gervasi Vineyard in North Canton! My brother & his wife were married there nearly a year ago, and this was my second time back at this venue to play for another couple’s wedding.
Cheryl & Thomas had both their ceremony and reception at the vineyard’s Pavilion. It has the beauty of an outdoor ceremony overlooking the lake, but with side curtains that can be closed for privacy or for inclement weather. You can have an “outdoor” ceremony without worrying that it will rain!
The wedding party included the adult children of the bride and groom, and the bride was escorted down the aisle by her son. The entire processional was to Pachelbel’s “Canon in D.” During the pouring of the unity sand, I played “Bless the Broken Road” by Rascal Flatts.
Mendelssohn’s “Wedding March” was the recessional, after which everyone made their way to the lakeside arch for a butterfly release. Cheryl chose “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” from The Wizard of Oz to be the background music for this.
I continued to play through the cocktail hour and until the DJ took over for introductions and toasts. They requested popular music from the 1960’s through the present, and some of the songs included:
- Fields of Gold
- Marry Me
- Stairway to Heaven
- Hallelujah
- Edelweiss from The Sound of Music
- Can’t Help Falling in Love
