I couldn’t live in India and not visit the Taj Mahal. So when my sister was here for a visit, and I had a wedding in neighboring Delhi, it was the perfect opportunity to take a couple of days to see this icon of India.
We wanted to be there for the sunrise, so we left our hotel at a completely unreasonable hour. The monument was not yet open when we arrived, so we found a local tea shop where we waited and met a couple who was visiting from the UK.
Certainly nothing fancy, but the hot tea was quite welcome on a chilly morning!
There are so many places that just can’t live up to the hype. The Taj Mahal is everything people say it is, and so much more. Walking through the gate truly felt like walking into a postcard. Its beauty was enhanced by the soft light and mist of the early hour.
