Another wonderful year of adding the beauty and romance of harp music to weddings across the globe! From historic churches to gardens to ballrooms, I have played in a stunning variety of venues for weddings large and small this year. Along with the lists of music below, you’ll see pictures from several of these ceremonies.
Each year, I go back over the wedding ceremonies I played for, and put together a list of all of the pieces my couples chose for different highlighted moments during the service. You’ll see the traditional “wedding classics,” but also several songs you might not have considered. Any piece of music that you love can be wedding music! Each list has the most popular pieces at the top, and the numbers in parentheses tell you how many times I have played that song for that particular moment of a ceremony.
For the grand entrance music (as the bride or groom walks down the aisle), “Can’t Help Falling in Love” took the top spot, followed by the traditional “Bridal Chorus (Here Comes the Bride).” Pachelbel’s “Canon in D” is still popular, but this year it was primarily used for a wedding party processional. Lord of the Rings fans chose “Concerning Hobbits” for four of the five main ceremony elements. For the recessional to conclude the ceremony, many couples opted for the traditional “Wedding March,” but right behind that was “This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)” – which didn’t even make the list last year!
While many of my couples book solo harp, I also work with other musicians. Some options are duets of harp with violin, flute, cello, steel drums, and piano, or larger ensembles such as a trio of harp, violin, and cello or a harp with string quartet.
Your wedding music should be personal to you – something you hear even years later and are taken back to your walk down the aisle. Maybe that’s your favorite pop song or maybe that’s the same piece your grandparents used in their ceremony. I love working with couples to make their wedding soundtrack both meaningful and unique.
