After a morning of rain, we were all delighted that the skies cleared just in time for the wedding of Gretchen and Alex! They were married at The Event on Sunnybrook in Kent, Ohio.
This venue is close to all of the major cities in Northeast Ohio (Cleveland, Akron, Canton), and has beautiful view over the lake from the ceremony patio. With the reception just inside, it’s a quick transition to cocktail hour, too!
For their ceremony, this couple booked my harp and violin duet. This is a very popular option, that includes the best of harp and the best of a string quartet. You can listen to clips of this ensemble playing several different songs across genres on my Audio Clips page.
Since rain was still on the radar, we set up just outside the doors to the reception space, just in case we needed to make a quick move inside. From the large open doors, we could continue to play while keeping our instruments safe from the weather. Fortunately, the rain held off and we were able to play the entire time outdoors.
The bride and groom requested popular songs for the prelude as guests arrived, including “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran, “Sky Full of Stars” by Coldplay, and “Video Games” by Lana del Rey. This last song is a favorite of Gretchen’s, so we played it as the final piece before the processionals – and then she requested it again during the postlude after the ceremony!
For the family seating, we played “To Make You Feel My Love” by Bob Dylan. The wedding party entrance was “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” and Gretchen chose the classic “Canon in D” for her walk down the aisle.
The ceremony concluded with Bruno Mars’ “Marry You” for the recessional. Following this, we played other contemporary and upbeat selections as guests were off for cocktails and the wedding party gathered for pictures (and that reprise of “Video Games”!).
