Fatima and Ahmed celebrated their wedding at the Adler Planetarium in downtown Chicago. An iconic venue on the shore of Lake Michigan, it has a beautiful view of the city skyline. After hours, the museum was transformed to welcome their guests.
Guests enjoyed a social hour prior to the ceremony, with beverages, pictures of the couple, and harp music! They requested a variety of Bollywood, Arabic, and popular songs from the 1990s. Some of the pieces I played included:

- Baadak Ali Bali
- Kiss from a Rose
Along with providing the music for the evening, the harp was even a part of the bridal portraits!
The ceremony took place at 7:30 pm in the planetarium. Guests were seated under the “stars,” and as the bride came down the aisle, I played “Kabhi Kabhi Mere Dil Mein” from the 1976 Bollywood movie Kabhi Kabhie.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the bride and groom recessed back down the aisle to “Nassam Aleina al-Hawa” by the Lebanese singer Fairuz. I continued to play as guests exited on their way to dinner, featuring more Middle Eastern, Indian, and American popular songs.
The music Fatima and Ahmed chose was a wonderful way to blend cultures and traditions! The harp is not only a visually elegant instrument, but has the versatility to play music from around the world. One of my favorite moments as a harpist is when a guest exclaims with surprise that I’m playing one of their favorite songs!
