Salisbury House is an amazing venue! Constructed in Des Moines from parts of buildings brought over from Europe, it has a definite Old World feel, right in the Midwest.
I played for the Christmas party for a company’s board of directors, starting with cocktails in the entryway. The harp was set up in the balcony (a former choir stall from a church in England).
As the guests took a guided tour of part of the mansion, I moved the harp into the “common room” for dinner. Set up right next to the Christmas tree, and a one-of-a-kind Steinway piano, the room was dazzling!
Throughout the evening, I played favorite songs of the season, from traditional carols to contemporary songs. Given the surroundings, I also made sure to include some Medieval and Renaissance Christmas music!
